Those were the days…

Loved sketching stuff when young. Learnt a little bit of Kishangarh Shaili at my native place Kishangarh some 27 kms from Jaipur. I remember sitting at the centre watching the artists there make such lovely paintings. Such delicate work with Gilahri Kalam, made of the fine hair from a squirrel. They said only 15 hair per bristle was the norm and it was used to do all the delicate work. They used real gold (they said) to line some of the paintings. They looked very beautiful. I still remember that in Jaipur the eyes looked so different. They were all good in their own right. Lord Krishna adorned most of their walls. Now and then you could see nature inspire them…
